The camp offered free surgical operations to 40 patients with various conditions ranging from lumps/bumps, hernia and virology cases. The camp was held at Sharab Hospital in Kanifing.
Ansumana Kinteh, Information and Human Resource Manager for Direct Aid expressed their readiness to continue supporting the country’s healthcare system.
Mr. Kinteh who doubles as Program Coordinator for Direct Aid added that such operations might be very expensive for patients from poor backgrounds hence the need for their intervention.
He thanked the Government of The Gambia through the Ministry of Health for creating the conducive environment for them to contribute their quota to the development of the country and welfare of people.
According to him, they also sponsored another surgery camp with Sharab for patients suffering from thyroid, vesico-vaginal fistula and AV fistula.
Bubacarr Gaye, Matron of Sharab Hospital thanked Direct Aid for their contribution to the country’s healthcare system.
He also thanked patients for trusting them with their health issues.
Sulayman Mbye, on behalf of patients thanked the management of Sharab Hospital and Direct Aid for their humanitarian gesture, saying they could not have been able to pay for the surgeries if the camp was not free.
He said he has been battling with the sickness for some time but could not afford to pay for his surgery.
