Gambia Independence Day is celebrated on 18th February to mark the anniversary of The Gambia's liberation from the British Empire. After centuries of colonisation and exploitation, The Gambia finally gained the right to self-governance on 18th February 1965.
Ambassador Ruben also congratulated the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Momodou Tangara while hailing the existing bilateral ties between The Gambia and Cuba.
Ambassador Ruben, who completed his mandate to the country and is set to leave, said he has fulfilled his duty and that he is going to defend The Gambia whenever and wherever he may be.
“This country is huge for me. The only thing I have received in the country is love and they have helped in making my work easy and good. The Gambia and Cuba has much solidarity between its people,” the Cuban Ambassador recounted.
He also said that there is a saying that: “the people that know how to thank always accompany each other.”
