GID collects over D100M in 2022

The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) has announced that it generated D104,407,130.00 revenue in2022.

CSI Karalang Jarju made the pronouncement during a press conference held at GID Head office in Banjul yesterday, Thursday.

He added that, they envisaged to generate D98,000,000.00 through their activities over the year. However, he explained that though stringent measures put in place by their management, they realized DI04,407,130.00. The figure represents a 6.52% over the targeted figure by the department.

“This enviable mark was achieved due to reflective of the massive increase in persons

accessing immigration services over the period under review and also guaranteed effective monitoring of our financial processes and procedures leading to the blocking of revenue leakages and further ensuring that all monies collected at the various revenue collection points are paid into the various designated accounts, and vigorous enforcement activities embarked upon by the Enforcement Unit of the GID,” he said.

He highlighted that the gross revenue collections for the year 2022 against 2021 was D103,857,940.00, resulting in a positive variance of 0.53%. 

“Most of the revenue was realised from Machine Readable Passport (MIRP), Residential Permit B ECOWAS and ID Card and Visa,” said CSI Jarju.

“No amount was retained by the department. The entire amount of D104 million was paid into the Consolidated Revenue Fund account at the Central Bank of The Gambia (CBG),” he also said, noting that operationally, the GID intensified its operations to ensure that only legitimate migrants are admitted into the country.

“Entry Visas, entry clearance, extension of stay, Residence and Work Permits were issued to desirable migrants during the period under review,” he further explained.

He stated that GID issued 188,521 ECOWAS Identity Cards in 2021 and issued 124,133 ID Cards in 2022 with a variance of -64,288.

He said the department issued 23,966 Machine Readable Passports (MRP) in 2021 and 28,711 Biometric Passport (BP). 

He further added that 21,476 Machine Readable Passports were issued in 2022 and 40,099 Biometric Passports during the same year.

“Residential permit equals to 47,445 for year 2021 and 2022, Entry Visa and Clearance equals to 2,233, Extension of Visitors stay 811, and Emergency Travel Certificate recorded 811,” he disclosed.
