The project under the EU-UNDP GREAT Initiative is also committed to creating awareness about these landmark laws, which are shaping The Gambia's democratic future. The GREAT Initiative is a 9 million Euro project aimed at strengthening The Gambia's democratic transition, safeguarding human rights, and enhancing governance structures.
Moreover, these town hall sessions staged in the West Coast Region are part of the NCCE's efforts to engage citizens, promote civic education, and encourage active participation in the country's democratic process.
Mamadou A. H. Bah, Senior Program Officer at NCCE, reminded communities of the Anti-Corruption Act, 2023, and The Criminal Offences Act, 2025, which he said, are crucial legislative instruments to strengthen governance, accountability, and inclusivity in The Gambia.
He highlighted the importance of citizen awareness and participation in implementing these laws, ensuring a more transparent and just society.
Bah acknowledged that understanding the Anti-Corruption Act, 2023, and The Criminal Offences Act, 2025, is crucial for Gambians to participate in shaping a future where justice and accountability are the foundations of democracy.
He thus encouraged citizens to engage actively in the country's democratic process, ensuring that these laws contribute to a more transparent and just society.
Deputy Governor, West Coast Region (WCR), Musa Amul Nyassi, made reference to the Criminal Offences Act, 2025, which he said, seeks to strengthen legal protections, restores public trust in the justice system, and supports security and judicial reforms in The Gambia.
He added the Act's role in promoting transparency and accountability, aligning with the government's efforts to improve governance and the rule of law.
He stressed that these reforms are crucial for a democratic society where justice is a right for all, not a privilege for a few, ensuring equal protection under the law.
"This underscored the importance of the Anti-Corruption Act, 2023, and The Criminal Offences Act, 2025, in promoting fairness and accountability in The Gambia," he said.
Ousman Gaye, the chief of Old Yundum, and Kaddy Jammeh, representative of West Coast Region (WCR) under Regional Youth Council, both praised the National Council for Civic Education (NCCE) for organising the training on the Anti-Corruption and Criminal Offense Bill.
Besides, this training is part of the NCCE's efforts to educate citizens on the importance of anti-corruption and the rule of law.
