The move was in line with the fulfillment of the implementation of the recommendations put forward by the former Vice President, Dr. Alieu Badara Joof, who sometime ago at a cabinet retreat, gave all ministries a timeline to implement all recommendations and report to the executive. A mission that the Ministry of Higher Education, Research Science and Technology is endeavouring to meet against 2026.
The committee members are said to be well experienced personnel from both the Gambia government and the private sector who are specialised in the areas of fisheries and related fields.
At the forum, Professor Pierre Gomez tasked the committee to work towards developing a full proposal with recommendations of programs to be taught, the type of infrastructure to be built, cost of implementation among others.
Upon completion, the proposal would be shared with the Gambia government and development partners in order to generate funds for operationalisation.
