Comium, managed by Montymobile, on Wednesday launched its 2026 Ramadan Campaign, a divine initiative that will ensure every purchase made with Comium, one Dalasi of that purchase or revenue of the GSM company goes to support vulnerable groups across the country.

The launch, held at its head office along Kairaba Avenue, is one of the nationwide initiatives rooted in Comium’s calendar of events, dedicated to supporting the most vulnerable members of society throughout the month.

As deemed fit, this new campaign will be jointly coordinated by The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council and the SOS Children’s Village.

Addressing the gathering, Hassan Kabbani, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Comium, said it was with great pride that they had launched the Comium Ramadan Campaign 2026, a nationwide initiative rooted in care and shared responsibility, dedicated to supporting the most vulnerable members of society throughout this Holy Month.

The Comium CEO expressed the importance of helping one another in goodness and piety, adding that the Month of Ramadan calls for compassion, reflection, generosity and solidarity.

‘‘So we come together today around a shared human purpose and a meaningful initiative,” he stated. “Ramadan reminds us that true wealth is not only what we possess, but what we are willing to give. At Comium we have always believed that our responsibility goes beyond technology. Yes, we connect goals; connect data. But more importantly, we connect people and hearts. That belief is what brings us here today.’’

The idea behind this campaign, he added, is simple yet powerful and that throughout the Ramadan, for every purchase made with Comium, the GSM Company will contribute one Dalasi from its own revenue to support vulnerable groups through trusted organizations that care for them.

He maintained that through this campaign, Comium and the people of The Gambia are the ones actually doing the charity, sharing or giving together in the true spirit of Ramadan.

‘‘We are deeply honoured that the funds raised through this campaign will support institutions whose work touches lives every single day; institutions that shelter our children, care for our elderly, and uphold the dignity of those who need us most,’’ he said passionately.

These institutions, he added, are SOS Children's Village, the Supreme Islamic Council, and the Home for Elderly and Abandoned Children.

To their partners, he thanked them for their efforts, reminding that their work is not just service, it is compassion in action. ‘‘It is hope given a human face,’’ he added.

For his part, Mr Jean-Pierre Kouami, National Director of SOS Children's Village, said they are honoured to be part of the initiative, noting that Comium is not only offering services in terms of technology, but it is also supporting the most vulnerable people.

‘‘SOS Children's Village is here to ensure that no child grows up alone,” he assures, saying: “We're also here to break the child family separation cycle to ensure that every child grows up in a caring family. We also make sure that young people are given opportunity in terms of education, skills development, employment, to still break the cycle of child family separation.’’

To this end, he talked about the challenges or factors that some families are going through which sometimes leads to separation, noting that government is also doing quite a lot, but needs support.

This, he adduced, is the reason, SOS Children's Villages has been working in The Gambia, expressing delight in being a party to this initiative of supporting families.

‘‘So we're really grateful that Comium is showing the way to the overall Gambian community, but also to the business community. Thank you so much for helping,’’ he appreciated Comium.

Demba Jallow, admin and communication officer at The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council, revealed that as Ramadan fast approaches, a month of mercy, generosity, and reflection, the GSIC has initiated a nationwide Ramadan food support campaign aimed at reaching 1,000 needy families across the country.

This initiative, he stated, is rooted in their shared Islamic values of compassion, solidarity, and shared responsibility towards the most vulnerable members of the society.

‘‘Today, we are so proud to stand alongside Comium, one of the leading GSM network service providers in The Gambia, which has demonstrated true corporate leadership by partnering with GSIC in this rooted noble cause,” he applauded the initiative.

This collaboration, he added, is a shining example of how faith-based institutions and the private sector could work hand-in-hand to uplift communities and strengthen national unity.

‘‘Through this partnership, we are not only distributing food items, but are also delivering hopes, dignity, and reassurance to families who need it most during this month of Ramadan,’’ he affirmed.

Sarjo Khan, a commercial manager at Comium Gambia, expressed similar sentiments. He lauded the GSM company for the foresight and dedication in sharing love and care to their customers.

‘‘We are actually doing this on behalf of the whole country, more specifically on behalf of our customers,” he humbly ascribes the charity to the nation, saying: “That's why we're giving the opportunity and the privilege for every single Comium subscriber, by extension to the entire Gambian populace, to take part in contributing to this year's Ramadan by supporting a person or families in need.’’

The launch also witnessed the signing of an MoU among these three institutions.
