China hosts Seminar for Young Media Profesionals from BRI Countries

Thirty-four young Africans are currently attending a seminar for young media professionals from BRI Countries at the Zhejiang Normal University, the famous historical and cultural city of Jinhua, China.

Organised by the Zhejiang Normal University, the seminar brought together young media professionals from six countries, including The Gambia, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Tanzania, Türkiye and Uruguay. It will run from 31st October to 13th November 2025.

Participants will undergo various topics which include how to better understand China in history and in the modern era; understand the CPC’s mission and contributions and Chinese modernisation.

At the opening ceremony, Professor Zhu Yifeng, vice president of Zhejiang Normal University, disclosed that the university is distinguished by its focus on teacher education.

He recalled that over the past 69 years since its establishment, the university has graduated 400,000 professionals at various levels and in diverse fields, earning the reputation as the ‘Cradle of Basic Education Teachers in Zhejiang Province’.

With a clear sense of mission, he said, the university serves as a key institution of higher education in Zhejiang Province and that it is committed to “serving teacher education in Zhejiang, supporting regional economic and social development, and contributing to national strategic initiatives.

The university, he added, has developed distinctive brands in educational research, African studies, and child studies, while establishing service advantages in areas such as high-end think tanks and smart education.

“This is a university of substantial strength, with 10 disciplines ranked within the ESI Top 1% globally which has consistently been listed among the top 100 universities in China for 15 consecutive years in terms of comprehensive strength, and is ranked 50th in Chinese mainland in the US News 2025 World University Rankings.”

Zhejiang Normal, an internationalised university, has long been dedicated to international cooperation and exchanges, having established partnerships with over 280 higher education institutions in more than 60 countries and regions.

The university, he said, hosts more than 3,000 international students from over 90 countries and has established 4 Confucius Institutes, 1 independent Confucius Classroom, and 3 Chinese language teaching centers overseas.

Basma Sabry Mohamed, who spoke on behalf of the participants, said that they are expecting the seminar to provide them with a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of China’s dynamic media landscape, its innovative approaches to journalism and communication, and the way it integrates media, culture, and technology to support national development.
