Tramadol belongs to a class of drugs known as opioid analgesics. It works in the brain to change how your body feels and responds to pain.
The suspect is currently under the custody of the narcotics agency as investigation into the matter continues.
A source who is familiar with the development has confirmed it to our reporter, saying: “The suspect was arrested on Saturday upon arrival at the Banjul International Airport via Asky Airline.
Ousman Saidybah, the spokesperson of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency-The Gambia (DLEAG), who was contacted for comments, confirmed the arrest and detention of the suspect, saying: “Manty Koroma was arrested at the airport. In fact, the Tramadol were concealed in the suspect’s wig and others were concealed in bowl containing groundnut paste,” he explained.
According to Saidybah, the narcotics agency is more than committed to making the country free from all drug related issues and other clandestine activities in the country. “That is the desired goal of the senior management of the agency and that is what our officers are working towards achieving. It doesn’t matter which side of the country you enter, but I can assure you all that our officers are everywhere and they will continue to massively hunt drug dealers, traffickers, suppliers, abusers and among others. Whoever is involved in this practice, be ready because we are coming for you.”
The DLEAG PRO, while calling on the public support in arresting the menace of drug related issues in the country, said: “Despite the commitment of our officers and the senior management of the agency, we cannot do it alone. We need all hands on deck with a view to enable us achieve our objectives.”
