The president of the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has promised to maintain stronger partnership with government and businesses in The Gambia to register more growth and development in the public and private sector and the national economy.

GCCI President Edi Mass Jobe, a renowned businessman, made this statement in his 2022 end-of-year goodwill message to members and staff of GCCIon New Year’s Eve at the conference hall of GCCI in Kerr Serign.

“In 2023 the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) hopes to work with government and businesses more closely but also more frequently to create an environment that is competitive with a level-playing field,” he said.“It is only through competition that business innovation would survive.”

The GCCI president said further that there are areas where business innovation could only happen with collaboration with government, civil society and cultural institutions. These areas, he added, include the creation of space for women, youth and national development in especially commerce where “the barriers to entry can be adjusted”.

In his goodwill message to members and staff of GCCI for their hard work, commitment and dedication to the smooth operation of GCCI over the year, Mr Mass Jobesaid:“As the president of the GCCI, on behalf of the board of directors, I want to use this opportunity to wish our members and staff a happy and prosperous New Year.

“In 2022as we recover from the devastation of Covid-19, we were faced with new challenges of the Russia-Ukraine war and its attendant supply chain problems.

We see these challenges as opportunity to innovate new products, new services, new culture, new competence. We are now building the next generation enterprise in the hotel and entertainment industry, in telemedicine, in construction, generating value addition, creating employment and serving the needs of society.”

Mr  Jobe, who is among the top ten Gambian business achievers in the country, used the opportunity to thank all Gambians and residents of The Gambia for patronising local firms, especially the micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
