Also present were Justice Ebrima Jaiteh of the High Court, representatives from The Point newspaper, where the late journalist had worked, and former colleagues from the now-defunct Daily Observer newspaper, where he spent many years of his career as well.
Speaking at the Siffoe Central Mosque, mourners shared heartfelt tributes, describing Asemota as a devoted Muslim, a loving family man, and a professional who earned his living through honest work. He was remembered as someone deeply committed to truth, fairness, and integrity in journalism.
His passing marks the end of yet another distinguished chapter in Gambian media, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and principle.
Sheriff Bojang, proprietor of The Standard newspaper, described the late Bruce Asemota as a committed journalist whose passing is a great loss to both his company and the wider media industry. He noted that since Asemota arrived in The Gambia in 1991, he had worked tirelessly in the media sector, driven by a passion to inform Gambians, particularly through his specialised reporting on court proceedings.
High Court Judge, Justice Ebrima Jaiteh, described the late Asemota as a devoted Muslim, stating: “Even in the course of his work, when mistakes occurred, he would ensure they were rectified. He went the extra mile to guarantee the accuracy of reports, especially in court proceedings.”
He said Asemota's passing is not only a loss to the media, but also to the judiciary, where the deceased had been working for several years.
