Alhagie Hydara, the United Democratic Party’s (UDP) candidate for Farafenni Ward in Upper Baddibou District in the North Bank Region has rejected the election result of the just concluded local government elections, after he was defeated by Malick Samba of the president's National People’s Party NPP.

He accused the former councilor Papa Tunkara and JP Arabou Ansu Kanyi for bringing Senegalese from the nearby villages to vote. He further threatened to sue IEC, Papa Tunkara and JP Arabou Ansu Kanyi for election malpractice.

He made these remarks at the party’s latest press conference held on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a clash broke out between the residents of Farafenni Mauritani and members of the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) amid allegation of the arrival of three vehicles believed to be from Senegal carrying Senegalese citizens to take part in the local government elections.

The vice chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Joseph Colley has reacted to this allegation saying that the country has electoral laws concerning registration.

He added that once a person meets this requirement, an individual cannot be denied the right to vote. He noted that in order for an individual to be registered, he has to tender certain documents.
