The National Assembly's Bureau on Monday rejected the motion to impeach former President Macky Sall, filed last April by MP Guy Marius Sagna of PASTEF the ruling party. This resolution sought to bring the former president before the High Court of Justice for "high treason" due to serious financial irregularities noted by the Court of Auditors.
According to parliamentary sources, the decision was taken unanimously by the members of the Bureau, who considered that the motion did not meet the legal and constitutional requirements for such a procedure. The National Assembly's internal regulations stipulate that any request for impeachment must be accompanied by supporting evidence and a thorough legal analysis, which was not the case in this instance.
As a reminder, Guy Marius Sagna had accused Macky Sall of having contracted more than 2.5 trillion CFA francs outside the legal framework, without parliamentary authorization or inclusion in the finance laws. He also denounced the irregular use of Treasury deposit accounts, which escaped parliamentary control, and the concealment of the State's real deficit. These facts, according to him, constituted a clear violation of the principles of transparency, sincerity and budgetary responsibility.
