Few weeks ago, the disaster agency disclosed The Gambia experienced the worst flooding ever in nearly half a century (50), and therefore this has worsened the humanitarian situation in many communities across the Gambia, especially in Banjul, Kanifing Municipality (KM) and North Bank Region (NBR).
Being the main body responsible for dealing with such crisis, it assured that will be working closely with partners and other stakeholders to resolve the matter and ease the condition of families rendered victims.
However, the disaster management agency highlighted in its situational report that even though they are doing all they could to deal with and minimise the catastrophe posed by the floods, the challenges they face “are numerous.”
Amongst the challenges enumerated by NDMA are coordination structure strengthening, accessibility to certain affected areas, sanitation and health implications for those going back into their homes.
Additionally, shelter materials for those who have partial or complete damage to their homes and critical resource requirements for support, including vehicles and communications equipment, were also itemised among the problems.
