Magistrate's absence hinders SRN CEO alleged theft case

The theft case involving Sandy Kuman, the Chief Executive Officer of SRN Steel LTD, couldn’t proceed yesterday due to the absence of presiding magistrate Faal of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

SRN Company, which manufactures steel, is located in the Kombo Central District of the West Coast Region (WCR). The CEO of the said company was dragged to court for reportedly stealing 19 gas cylinders valued at D161,000.

The accused is charged with stealing contrary to Section 252 of the Criminal Code Volume III of the laws of The Gambia. He is charged with stealing 19 gas cylinders valued at D161,000 being the property of the country’s first oxygen company - Banjul Oxygen.

“I want to inform you all that the presiding magistrate couldn’t come to court today due to the fact that she is sick,” the court clerk said yesterday.

The alleged theft case involving the CEO of SRN was supposed to continue yesterday.

In fact, the first prosecution witness was already in court and ready to testify, but the case was adjourned till 22 May 2023.
