After a successful three-day Nouakchott Business Forum, leaders representing various countries across Africa and the Arab world signed a declaration of Peace Cities towards a more tolerant and stable world for all.

The signing, championed by the President of the Nouakchott Region, Madam Fatimatou Mint Abdel Malik and the President of the International Network for Arab and African Journalists, Mr. Cheikh Tijan Diawara, aspired to change and believe in the power of building the communities.

The principle of the Peace Cities represents an innovation aimed at transforming cities into hubs for peaceful coexistence and understanding.

For the component of enhancing peace and security, RIJAA and its partners emphasised that peace is not merely the absence of conflicts but a state of comprehensive stability and psychological well-being. The declaration promotes a culture of tolerance and understanding to consecrate our cities as an environment fostering both internal and external peace.

On the promotion of cultural coexistence, the declaration seeks to strengthen coexistence among cultures as a basis for sustainable progress. The organisations of cultural and social events are encouraged to promote cultural exchange and enhance the understanding of cultural diversity as wealth rather than an obstacle.

One of the key issues covered by the declaration is the promotion of transparency and participation.

The declaration indicated that civic participation and transparency are two essential pillars for building a society based on justice and equality.

RIJAA and partners support effective local governance that includes citizens in the decision-making process and encourage active contributions to democracy.

Other issues highlighted by the declaration include the promotion of sustainable development and the strengthening of international cooperation among others.
