 Kingdom in Nigeria affirms allegiance to Gambian tourism

The people of Ishaga Akiniyi Kingdom in Ogun State, Nigeria through its traditional ruler, HRE Francis Femi Akiniyi has affirmed the Kingdom's allegiance, saying he’s proud to be associated with The Gambia’s tourism sector.

According to one of the promotional materials in circulation in Ishaga Akiniyi Kingdom, the people of the Kingdom and Nigerian tourists are encouraged to visit Destination Gambia - The Smiling Coast of Africa “where tourism is second to none.”

HRE Francis Femi Akiniyi who will confer a chieftaincy title and award one of Gambian tourism marketers’ doyen, Adama Njie, GTBoard Director of Tourism Promotion UK, reiterated that “The Gambia is first among equals when it comes to the business of tourism.”

Writing in a letter notifying Mr Adama Njie about his selection for a chieftaincy title and award in the Kingdom, the traditional ruler who is a number one promoter of Gambia Tourism in his Kingdom penned: “Dear Mr. Adama Njie, The Ishaga Akiniyi Kingdom has decided to confer the title of ‘Borokini’ on you.”

The letter stated further that the honour is being given to Adama Njie as ‘recognition of his service and contributions to the community, while he was finally invited to what they called ‘iwuye,’ meaning conferment in Yoruba language. The ceremony will take place on 18 May 2024 at the Kingdom in Ogun State Nigeria.

Speaking to Mr. Adama Njie via telephone on his acceptance, he thanked the traditional rulers and chiefs of Ishaga Akiniyi Kingdom for this recognition.

He said receiving the chieftaincy is another way of recognising The Gambia as a tourism destination and also as a sought-after destination that welcomes every visitor and tourist.
