Man gets 15-year jail term for raping 61-year-old

One Muhammed Rasul Sowe, a Senegalese national was on Monday 13 May 2024 convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour for sexually assaulting a 61-year old woman (name withheld).

He was sentenced by principal Magistrate Isatou Sallah Mbai of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

The convict was charged with rape contrary to section 3(1) (a) of the Sexual Offences Act 2013.

He pleaded guilty to offence charged.

According to the prosecution, Muhammed Rasul Sowe (the convict), on or about the 9th day of April 2024, in The Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of The Gambia, forcefully had a carnal knowledge of a 61- year-old woman without her consent.
