The Director-General of the Gambia Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) has emphasised the importance of building robust, sustainable, and future-proof infrastructure.

Dr Njogou L. Bah emphasised this importance in his remarks at the closing ceremony of the West Africa Telecommunication Regulatory Assembly (WATRA) Banjul Meeting held yesterday 13 June 2024 at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Conference Centre.

"The conversations we have had around building robust, sustainable, and future-proof infrastructure are crucial as we strive to bridge the digital divide,” DG Njogou Bah said. “Investing in modern infrastructure not only supports current demands but also positions us to embrace future technological advancements."

The PURA director general highlighted that consumer access and experience have always been at the forefront of the PURA agenda.  He said ensuring that citizens have equitable access to reliable and affordable telecommunication services is not merely a goal but a necessity.

The discussions and strategies shared at the meeting provided a road map to achieve the  objective of providing accessible and reliable telecommunications services, Dr Bah said, adding that  from innovative service delivery models to enhanced regulatory frameworks, “PURA is now better equipped to meet the diverse needs of consumers”.

Realising the meeting was a significant milestone, WATRA’s Executive Secretary Aliyu Yusuf Aboki highlighted. He said experts on the subject deliberated extensively, aiming to drive the agenda forward by addressing areas that would enhance active participation and foster telecommunications across West Africa. He also expressed gratitude to PURA for successfully hosting WATRA members and all.

A participant from Ghana, Kwame Baffuor Osei Akoto, expressed his gratitude to President Adama Barrow and PURA for their hospitality and the successful hosting of the event. He also thanked the PURA team for their “kindness and support throughout the meeting”.
