The bus is currently impounded and parked at the Senegalese customs officers station at Kerr Ayub border post as investigation into the matter continues.
A source, who is familiar with the matter and spoke to The Point on the condition of anonymity, has confirmed the development, saying: “I can confirm to you that the GTSC bus is currently parked at the Kerr Ayub border. The suspected drug was found inside the bus in a luggage reportedly belonging to someone who is in Dakar.”
Our source added: “It was the GTSC bus driver who was transporting the said luggage to the guy in Dakar. However, during the routine search by the Senegalese customs officers, the said luggage containing the suspected drugs was found in the possession of the driver, which eventually led to his arrest and detention.”
Another source, who is also familiar with the matter and spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity, said: “The bus driver is currently detained by the Senegalese authorities as investigation into the matter continues. He was arrested with 793 pills of ecstasy, which is a control drug.”
Our source also said: “The GTSC has even written to the Gambia Police Force Interpol with a view to facilitate the release of the driver. However, nothing has been done yet,” adding: “It is not easy to secure the release of someone in Senegal.”
Officials of the GTSC were contacted for comments but they declined.
