Former Minister passes away: Nation mourns loss of esteemed leader

Former minister of Communities and Land Administration and Religious Affairs, Ismaila Kabba Sambou, passed away yesterday 4 July 2024.

Sambou, born November 16, 1948 in Darsilami, Kombo Central, West Coast Region, attended a privately run technical college from 1964 to 1968 and then Yundum College until 1970 and studied cooperative studies.

In this area, he worked as Secco manager from 1970 to 1976 and then as field coordinator until 1980. This was followed by the role of operations coordinator, manager and trainer until 1984. 

In 1988, he worked as Counterpart/ILO Project Manager in the Gambia Cooperative Union Systems, and from the same year he was a freelance consultant.

On March 24, 2005, he was appointed Minister of Municipalities and Land Administration by President Yahya Jammeh. Later, on September 24, 2007, the area of responsibility for religious affairs was added. He remained in office until February 4, 2010 and was replaced by Pierre Tamba.

Subsequently, from April 2010, he was accredited as ambassador to Senegal, Mali and Burkina Faso.
