The move is aimed at supporting and resolving the transportation difficulties faced by the Prison Services.
The ceremony was held at the Prison Services Administrative Headquarters, Mile II.
Speaking at the ceremony, Siaka Sonko, the minister of Interior, said the donation of the buses would ease the transportation constraints of prison officers by enhancing punctuality to work and thus boosting their morale.
Minister Sonko points out that the intervention was a clear manifestation of government’s continuous commitment in supporting the Gambia’s security sector in ensuring that the security and safety needs of the people are guaranteed.
For his part, Ansumana Manneh, director general of the Prison Services, said the event marked a significant milestone in the prison, adding it’s another chapter of change and transformation to increase and improve the transportation challenges faced by the GPS administration.
Saloum Malang, the chairman of the Gambia Transport Service Company, described the move as a clear manifestation of the Public Private Partnership.
He revealed that they received a letter on 27 July 2023 – upon which they had an emergency board meeting and approved their general manager to proceed with the process of the busses for the GPS.
He revealed that President Barrow has a personal hand in the donation of the busses.
