Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has registered significant growth in revenue generation over the years, rising from D6 billion in 2016 to D25.3 billion in 2025. This represents a more than 300% growth, with the authority exceeding its 2025 target of D23 billion.

GRA’s Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe highlighted this remarkable revenue growth during his meeting with ATAF's executive secretary on Tuesday.

He attributed this success to reforms like digital tax stamps, electronic receipts, and VAT reforms, which have improved efficiency and compliance.

He emphasised that the strong performance is attributed to reforms introduced since 2017, including digital tax stamps, electronic receipts, VAT reforms, fuel marking, e-tracking, and the ASYCUDA World system at the Ports. "These initiatives have improved efficiency, reduced leakages, and boosted compliance," he added.

The GRA boss credited the gains to strong political will, peace, stability, and sustained engagement with taxpayers.

The authority has also implemented measures to broaden the tax base and enhance revenue collection methods.

According to him, the GRA's revenue growth is expected to continue, with a target of D27 billion set for 2026.

CG Darboe highlighted GRA's strengthened technical capacity in complex tax areas like transfer pricing and VAT on cross-border transactions. "This, combined with improved voluntary compliance among taxpayers, has driven the authority's success," he noted.

The GRA's focus on public engagement and consistent enforcement of tax regulations is paying off, and the Authority is well-positioned to tackle emerging challenges in digital services taxation.

Darboe's commitment to sustained reform efforts and institutional discipline is reassuring for the country's development trajectory.

The GRA Commissioner General referred to 2016 as a baseline phase, setting the stage for the significant reforms that followed. Since then, the GRA has made tremendous progress, with revenue soaring from D6 billion to D25.3 billion in 2025.
