DCG Jallow, who was speaking during the official opening of a daylong human resource staff orientation organised by GRA and held yesterday at Metzy Hotel, said the media have been with them through and through in creating more awareness about tax compliance.
Without the media, he said, it it would have been very difficult for GRA to accomplish its goal in meeting revenue generation targets, adding that the media’s contribution to GRA’s work has been “in no small measure and is highly appreciated”.
“We at the GRA recognize the media our partners in development, in a very special way,” Mr Jallow said, adding: “The kind of work that we do, the media plays a very important role in terms of transmitting important messages about our mandate - what we do so that the general public will be well informed about the activities of the authority.”
Regarding the orientation or seminar, DCG Jallow said: “I have no doubt that this orientation will prepare you (GRA staff) better to be more effective and efficient to approach challenges and issues we will continue to grapple with as we enter 2025.”
He said the HR department stands a more unique way in GRA administration as the unit effectively managing the Authority’s “most vital Human Resources”.
“We have a very proactive director that is always trying to see how HR can complement in a meaningful way to assist the GRA,” he appreciates, saying: “Today GRA is a household name because we live up to expectations.”
In his edifying presentation at the 7th Human Resources and Administration Staff Department orientation, Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe equally commended the Gambia media for their pivotal role in creating more awareness and wider visibility about the role and mandate of the GRA.
“Thank you the the media for the great job,” he said, adding that the media play a significant role in information dissemination on tax and tax-related matters with the view to improving tax compliance.
He said the contribution of the media to the work of GRA has impacted positively in GRA’s annual revenue target, for the fact that there is a massive tax compliance from business entities, thus helping GRA to register unprecedented achievements in revenue generation year in year out. “We cannot easily achieve our goal in the absence of the media,” he commended.
Concluding, the GRA leading light said there is need for complementary efforts in the interest of national development.
