Speaking to journalists shortly after presenting his nomination documents before Mr Anthony Robert Secka, Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Commissioner for the WCR, Mr Gitteh said: “As a council, we would like to engage youth into meaningful developmental activities either through sports or entrepreneurships programmes. There are lots of people who finished their university and college educations but are not able to get jobs to help their parents or families.”
Mr Gitteh initially planned to vie under the National People’s Party (NPP) ticket but could not make it to the congress. He claimed being cheated in the congress.
However, he said, if elected, will initiate a youth empowerment programme of 30 million dalasis that would support youth in the area of entrepreneurship.
“There are lots of opportunities for young people because lots of bananas come from Guinea Conakry and lots of chickens come from the West and arrive months after production. We have opportunities for the young people to be allocated money to venture into poultry farming to produce meat and eggs,” he said.
Speaking further, the politician said under his leadership, BAC will support youth of WCR in the area of sports and provide scholarship for young differently abled people to acquire education.
On women empowerment
Concerning women empowerment, Mr. Gitteh said under his headship, the council will build markets across the region to ensure enabling environment for vendors and business people.
“Several gardens in the region are not fenced. Our mothers will work until their vegetables ripe and livestock would come and tamper their vegetables. For us, we will fence their gardens and provide them with sufficient water supply,” he told journalists.
On waste management
Mr. Gitteh said the WCR is far lacking behind in terms of environmental sanitation, adding he would make sure there is proper waste management system in the region to ensure good health in the society.
According to him, he knows the problems of the region, citing inadequate water supply, problems of infrastructure, health, environment and scholarship for students among others.
