GFRS observes 22nd Fire Service Open Day

The Gambia Fire and Rescue Services (GFRS), on Saturday, 22nd of November, 2025, observed its 22nd Fire Service Open Day Celebration at Bansang in the Central River Region

This year’s open day of The Gambia Fire Rescue Services was celebrated under the theme: ‘Promoting Fire Safety is Protecting Communities’, as it is relevant to recognise the crucial role played by firefighters in preventing fire out breaks and other emergencies within the country.

The permanent secretary at the Ministry of Interior, Mr. Matarr Ceesay, in delivering a statement on behalf of the Honorable Minister of Interior, Abdoulie Sanyang began his statement by expressing his heartfelt appreciation to the Governor of the Central River Region (CRR) for hosting the auspicious event.

“This occasion is more than an exhibition of firefighting equipment and skills. It is a reflection; a time to recognize the invaluable contribution of our firefighters to the safety, security and wellbeing of our Nation,” PS Ceesay highlighted.

PS Ceesay noted that The Gambia Fire and Rescue Services under the auspices of the Ministry of Interior remained a key stakeholder in National Safety highlighting the invaluable role the GFRS plays in protecting lives and property.

For this, PS Ceesay emphasised, saying: “The government of the Gambia initiated major reforms for the modernization of GFRS through training, provision of equipment, and enhanced welfare of the officers.”

In conclusion, he thanked Avon Fire and Rescue Services, NGO Starup in Canary Islands and Regional partners including Brigade National des Sapeurs Pompiers for their continued support and collaboration with the GFRS.

Equally, he reiterated that the government of the Gambia through the Ministry of Interior remained steadfast in its commitment to strengthen the capacity of the Gambia Fire and Rescue Services.
