
"It is disheartened that after our press release from three years, we continue to realise how GSM operators continue to punish its users with their high tariffs and slow internet connection," the party stated.
“In today's digital age, internet access is no longer a luxury but a necessity. However, many of us are forced to endure high costs, slow speeds, and unreliable connections,” it added.
"The High internet tariffs are a significant burden on the masses, businesses, and the economy as a whole."
"It's unacceptable that in this era of technological advancement, many people struggle to afford basic internet services compared to our neighbors in the subregion."
The Gambia internet has the most expensive internet tariff coupled with low salary scale. People are using huge amount of money monthly to stay connected on the internet that continues to crawl.
Moreover it stated that the lack of proper regulation from Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) is a significant failure to these problems. “PURA must ensure that internet service providers operate in a fair and transparent manner.”
However, the absence of effective regulation has allowed GSMs to prioritize profits over people, leading to unreliable services and exorbitant prices.
“We demand that PURA take immediate action to address these issues because putting into consideration that internet is needed by everyone for our daily businesses makes it a must for its affordability and reliability.”
“In conclusion, the high internet tariffs, poor quality of network, and lack of proper fair regulation are unacceptable. We urge PURA to take action to address these issues and ensure that internet access is affordable, reliable, and widespread. Together, we can create a more connected and fair society.”
