Customs officials from the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) stationed at the airport intercepted Sheikh Ceesay, a 34-year-old dual national, upon arrival on board SN Brussels Airlines from New York via Brussels.
Ceesay was found in possession of two suitcases containing a total of 50 packs of suspected cannabis skunk, 26 packs in one suitcase and 24 in the other.
Ousman Saidybah, the spokesperson of the agency who was contacted for comments, confirmed the development, saying: “Preliminary investigations, revealed that Ceesay, who holds an American passport and resides in Brusubi Phase 1, claimed the suitcases were handed to him by two individuals named Omar and Sarjo, both of whom he alleged are based in the United States.”
Following the discovery, Ceesay was immediately handed over to DLEAG operatives for further investigation and appropriate legal action.
“This arrest underscores our agency’s unwavering commitment to dismantling drug networks and protecting Gambian society from the dangers of narcotics and transnational crime,” he reiterated.
