Africmed International Hospital has reinforced its support to The Gambia’s security sector with a new donation of essential medical equipment to the Gambia Police Force (GPF), weeks after donating an ambulance to the Police Clinic.

The items, presented on Wednesday at the Gambia Police Headquarters in Banjul, are aimed at improving healthcare services for police officers and their families.

The donation included two oxygen cylinders, two Accu-Chek blood glucose monitors with four packets of test strips, one oxygen flow meter, one nebulizer, two oxygen masks, and one wheelchair. According to Africmed, the equipment will boost the Police Clinic’s capacity to respond to emergencies and improve routine care.

Assistant Inspector General of Police for Service Support, AIG Kalilu Njie, received the items on behalf of Inspector General of Police Seedy Mukhtar Touray. He conveyed the IGP’s appreciation to Africmed Managing Director, Dr. Omar Jagne, describing the intervention as “timely and generous.”

“The Gambia Police Force highly values partnerships with individuals and institutions that support the welfare of its personnel,” AIG Njie said. He noted the donation would significantly enhance the quality of healthcare provided at the clinic and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to strengthening service delivery through strategic collaborations.

Speaking at the presentation, Dr. Jagne said supporting the Police Clinic is an investment in national development. He noted that security personnel deserve quality healthcare given their critical role in protecting lives and property.

“Our security personnel work tirelessly to safeguard our communities, often while others are asleep. Supporting their healthcare needs is one way of recognising their invaluable service to the nation,” Dr. Jagne stated.

He said the donation forms part of Africmed’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme, which seeks to complement government efforts to improve healthcare across the country. Dr. Jagne assured the GPF of continued support, revealing that more assistance will be provided to address the clinic’s pressing needs.

Earlier on Wednesday, Dr. Jagne paid a courtesy call on IGP Touray. The two discussed strengthening collaboration between Africmed and the Gambia Police Force. Dr. Jagne said the ambulance donation last month marked “only the beginning of a long-term partnership.”

He commended Dr. Secka, head of the Police Clinic, for identifying urgent needs and working to improve services. Dr. Jagne also stressed that government alone cannot shoulder healthcare improvements, calling on the private sector to complement national development through partnerships.

IGP Touray expressed gratitude for both the ambulance and medical equipment, describing them as significant support for the Police Clinic. He acknowledged Africmed’s growing contribution to the health sector and praised Dr. Jagne’s professionalism and commitment to public service. The IGP recalled receiving treatment at Africmed International Hospital and commended the quality of care.

AIG Njie also lauded Dr. Jagne as one of the country’s leading healthcare professionals, urging other corporate institutions and philanthropists to emulate Africmed by supporting critical public institutions, especially in health.

The latest donation further strengthens Africmed’s role in public healthcare and highlights how public-private partnerships can improve service delivery in institutions providing essential services to Gambians.
