The agreement was signed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad, marking another important milestone in the strategic bilateral relations between The Gambia and China. The grant assistance is intended to support small but smart projects aligned with The Gambia’s national development priorities and will contribute meaningfully to socio-economic development and the wellbeing of the Gambian people.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Sering Modou Njie, expressed profound appreciation to the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China for their continued solidarity, goodwill, and unwavering support to The Gambia. The Minister noted that the grant reflects China’s steadfast commitment to practical, results-oriented cooperation, particularly in areas that directly impact livelihoods and promote sustainable development.
The Minister further highlighted that China has been a long-standing and reliable development partner, with cooperation spanning infrastructure development, health, agriculture, capacity building, and humanitarian assistance. The signing of this agreement, the Minister emphasized, is in line with the shared vision of both countries to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation based on mutual respect, trust, and common development goals.
The Honourable Minister used the opportunity to reaffirm the unwavering commitment of the Republic of The Gambia to the one-China principle, firmly opposes any form of separatism and external interference in China’s internal affairs, and supports all efforts undertaken by the People’s Republic of China to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity and to achieve national reunification.
On his part, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to The Gambia, H.E. Liu Jin, reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting The Gambia’s development efforts and strengthening bilateral cooperation. He underscored the importance of South-South cooperation and people-centered development initiatives that deliver tangible benefits to communities.
The Government of The Gambia remains committed to ensuring the effective, transparent, and timely implementation of the grant assistance in order to maximize its impact and benefits for the Gambian people.
This signing once again demonstrates the enduring friendship between The Gambia and the People’s Republic of China and their shared resolve to continue advancing cooperation for peace, development, and prosperity.
