Former Gambian Diplomat dies in Dubai

Kebba Dampha, a respected administrator and former First Secretary at The Gambia Dubai Embassy, United Arab Emirates, has died.

Mr. Dampha, former employee of The Central Bank of The Gambia later relocated to the United Kingdom where he lived with his family for three decades.

The Point gathered that Mr. Dampha fondly called “Uncle Kebba”, one of the country’s most admired and revered personalities who spoke with this correspondent just last week died in a car accident.

It could be recalled that as a diplomat, in July 2021, he attracted most attention and praise in the presence of several ambassadors during the award ceremony of “Africa’s Most Respected CEO Awards 2021”.

During the event, he was selected as a special guest of honour to present awards to the respective CEOs including The Point’s Pap Saine, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.   

In a letter addressed to this correspondent, the Board of Directors of the Business Executive officially extended their invitation to the former Gambian diplomat describing him as a “professional and skilled” envoy. 

Ismaila B. Ceesay, retired Regional Manager of the World Bank Group; former Managing Director in The Gambia and previous Gambian Ambassador to the European Union, who is a close friend of the deceased responding said: “I am deeply devastated by the very sad demise of a dear friend and brother Kebba. I cannot still believe this has happened”.

In London, where Mr. Dampha had worked with this correspondent in the same Law firm as a senior administrator equally received the news with shock and grief. They described him a “fine gentleman, a man of the people who wishes everyone well with no iota of grudge inside him”.
