FJC presents credential to Mozambican presidency

On Wednesday, Fatoumata Jahumpa Ceesay, ambassador of the Republic of The Gambia to South Africaβ€”also accredited as a non-resident ambassador to Mozambiqueβ€”presented her credentials to His Excellency Daniel Francisco Chapo, President of Mozambique, at the Presidential Palace in Maputo. Β 

During the meeting, Ambassador FJC conveyed warm greetings from President Adama Barrow and people of the Republic of the Gambia to President Daniel Francisco Chapo and people of Mozambique, expressing Gambia's readiness to enhance bilateral relations in political, economic, and cultural spheres.

As Your Excellency is well aware, Mozambique and The Gambia have always maintained excellent relations based on shared values such as democracy, respect for human rights, and the rule of law.

In her presentation Amb FJC said, since independence Mozambique through its founding father President Samora Machel, has inspired many African nations to embrace unity and keep the struggle for the total independence of others and that laudable stance of Mozambique is still fresh in the minds of Gambians who have great respect and admiration for Mozambique ,and said that was why The Gambia was unwavering in its support to the brotherly people of Mozambique during the liberation struggle.

She emphasised that as developing countries, we have a common destiny, and therefore, we should pool our resources and strengthen our cooperation for the mutual benefit of our people.

Ambassador FJC also voiced Gambia's readiness to facilitate exchanges of high-ranking political and economic delegations.

In response, President Chapo expressed his gratitude for the greetings from President Adama Barrow and affirmed Mozambique’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation with the Republic of the Gambia into Technical and Cultural Cooperation Agreement across various sectors.  He also expressed his gratitude to President Barrow for his support during the post election period.

Addressing regional developments, Chapo stated, "We oppose the continuation of war and support peace and security in the region.

Amb FJC had a meeting with the Director General of Africa and Middle East to discuss the formation of a technical framework and also had a meeting with the Gambian community in Mozambique who are mostly engaged in mining and business but complained about immigration issues they encounter with the authorities.
