The suspect, Joseph Sunday Nweze, a 46 year old Nigerian national residing in Spain was intercepted on Thursday 2nd May 2024 during checking for Royal Air Maroc flight to Casablanca.
A source who is familiar with the matter and wished to speak to our reporter on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the development, saying: “The suspect was reported to be flying to Paris via Casablanca.”
Ousman Saidybah, the spokesperson of the narcotics agency, who was also contacted for comments, confirmed the development to The Point, adding, that “the suspect was targeted using behaviour indicator techniques and subsequently confessed to swallowing pellets of cocaine in a West African country, where he travelled from through the land border straight to the Airport.”
The suspect, PRO Saidybah added, has excreted the suspected 130 pellets of cocaine and is currently going through investigative procedures.
The DLEAG, he went on, is doing everything possible ensuring that drug related issues are completely eradicated in the country, further claiming: “Despite the commitment of our management and the dedication of our operatives, it would be difficult to achieve these objectives without the support of the public. Therefore, we want all hand on deck for us to achieve this objective.”
“It does not matter where you are entering in the country, but be rest assured that our officers are everywhere and doing the best in keeping the country safe from drug related issues. We will continue to hunt all those that are involved in drug and other clandestine activities in the country one by one. Our desire is to ensure that we live in a society free from drug or any of it forms,” he told our reporter.
Saidybah added: “We have made a follow up about the country where he swallowed the pellets and it’s confirmed that the suspect swallowed the cocaine in Guinea Bissau.”
