The rule of law is the nation’s shield, and the Judiciary must stand as its unyielding guardian,” declared Hon. Chief Justice Edi M. O. Faal as he received the Gambia Law Society in his chambers on 12 August 2026.

The newly appointed Chief Justice, speaking with conviction, expressed appreciation to Senior Counsel Lamin K. Mboge and members of the Law Society for their courtesy visit and goodwill.

He welcomed their pledge of cooperation, stressing that the Judiciary’s mission is to uphold integrity, impartiality and constitutionalism. “Our collective duty is to strengthen the administration of justice and advance the Judiciary towards the highest standards of excellence,” he said.

The Gambia Law Society, under Mr. Mboge’s leadership, congratulated His Lordship on his appointment as Chief Justice and Head of the Judiciary.

The Society described the appointment as a recognition of his distinguished legal acumen, integrity, and lifelong dedication to the promotion of justice and the rule of law.

Mr. Mboge emphasised that the visit was not merely ceremonial but a reaffirmation of the Society’s unwavering support for the Judiciary. “We stand ready to work cooperatively with the Bench and all stakeholders in the administration of justice, while remaining committed to defending and upholding the Constitution,” he affirmed.

Chief Justice Faal, in response, underscored the importance of collaboration between the Judiciary and the legal profession.

“The Judiciary cannot succeed in isolation. It thrives when supported by a principled Bar, a vigilant civil society, and a government that respects judicial independence,” he noted.

He pledged to work closely with the Law Society and other partners to ensure justice is delivered with fairness and integrity.

The meeting was widely seen as a symbolic moment of unity between the Bench and the Bar, signalling a renewed era of cooperation in the administration of justice.

The exchange of goodwill between the country’s highest judicial officer and the Law Society sets the tone for reforms aimed at strengthening institutions and safeguarding constitutional governance.
