President Barrow reaffirmed his government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement as he embarks on a countrywide tour aimed at evaluating developmental initiatives and listening to the concerns of ordinary Gambians.
Speaking to journalists at the Banjul Ferry Terminal before departure, President Barrow emphasised the importance of the tour, describing it as a vital constitutional obligation that allows him to connect with the people and gather first-hand information on the challenges they face.
“This year, we are highly organised. We will visit numerous projects and assess their impact on the beneficiaries,” the President stated. “The tour enables us to interact with Gambians, understand their concerns, and ensure that government interventions are responsive and effective.”
He noted that the tour is not only a platform for dialogue but also an opportunity to showcase the government’s developmental agenda, adding: “Every year, we go around the country to meet with citizens and discuss the issues affecting them so that my government can address them. At the same time, we will roll out our development plans and highlight the projects currently being implemented across the country,” he added.
President Barrow underscored the democratic significance of the tour, reminding the public that the mandate given to his government by the people comes with the responsibility to remain accessible and accountable.
“The Gambians voted us into office. Therefore, it is essential that we meet with them, listen to their concerns, and work together to improve their living conditions,” he concluded.
The nationwide tour is expected to cover all regions, with stops at key project sites and community meetings scheduled throughout the coming weeks.
