He revealed that their target was to have the Lot 2 Project completed in line with the initial project plan and have it as part of the 2025 Independence Celebration.
President Barrow was speaking on Wednesday 15 January 2025 during an interview with reporters at the University of The Gambia Faraba Banta Campus.
He was on an official inspection of Lot 2 of the Fixed Package of the UTG Development Project.
The President inspected the ongoing works of the Chancery building, the School of Agriculture and Environmental Science, Faculty of Law and the Convocation Ground among others.
“I am always involved with my projects despite my busy schedules. I always want to go and inspect my projects. This was scheduled during the meet with people’s tour, but we were so engaged and I was travelling, but I said let me come and see what is happening here,” he said.
“Definitely, to be very honest, when I was in my office there was something in my head; there was a picture, but that did not reflect with it on the ground, because of the target time we have for this project. But the project is way behind schedule because we targeted this project to be part of our independence celebration.”
“It is far behind schedule but we have discussed with the contractor and the consultant, they will give us a realistic revised work plan and we will receive this on Friday and discuss with them to see what will be realistic that we can complete this project” he continued.
“But with this building (referring to the Faculty of Law), I believe we are up to 90% of the infrastructural work. It is just the chancery that is delayed now. There are some difficulties, but we are 100% percent sure that we are aiming to deliver the project before the end of this year, that is our target.”
He noted that there were not many issues, saying that the company has the capacity to do more than what they are doing. He thus encouraged them to strengthen their muscles to complete Phase 2.
“There is no enough space for people doing law or agriculture in this country; so to expand, we have to update these people, and finishing off this building now. We are talking about the future, so we do not have the capacity to fill this, but we told them that we are not doing this for today, we are doing this for the future. We have to factor that.”
