Three apartments, a fashion shop and a pharmacy in Busumbala, Kombo North in the West Coast Region were recently burned to ashes rendering residents homeless.

The cause of the fire outbreak was given as electrical spark, according to the residents.

The total cost of the perished items in the houses could not be estimated at the time of gong press.

Speaking to The Point after the incident, Lamin Darboe, a victim and a lecturer at the School of Public Health, and the owner of the fashion shop and pharmacy, explained that the fire outbreak happened on Friday morning while he was at work and others were in school.  “So I believe that it is as a result of an electric spark in one of the houses that erupted without the notice of the residents of the houses.  When this fire got serious and out of hand, we decided to call the fire service to come for help,” he said.

According to Mr Darboe, by the time the Fire and Rescue Service team arrived at the scene, all the items in the three houses, fashion shop and the pharmacy were destroyed.

The fire victims are currently appealing to the government through the National Disaster Management (NDMA), philanthropists and well-wishers for support.
