Zonal Championship Renamed "Muhammad Yahya Jammeh Perpetual Cup Competition"

According to a press release issued by The Gambia Football Association and seen by Pointsports, President Jammeh has approved the request for permission made by the GPA president, Mr. Seedy Buwa Kinteh, to name the Super Nawettan Zonal Championship after Baby Muhammad Yahya Jammeh.

According to the release, the Gambian leader, who also doubles as the chief patron of The Gambia Football Association, has pledged D280, 000 as the sponsorship package of the eight zone soccer extravaganza.

The release stated that "President Jammeh commended The Gambia Football Association, under the stewardship of Seedy Buwa Kinteh, for recognising the collective efforts registered in the development of sports in our beloved country, The Gambia." He also assured the GFA of his government's determination and resolve to develop and promote sports in every possible way.

In the Muhammad Yahya Jammeh's perpetual cup competition, the eight teams in the championship would each receive D10, 000 as a preparatory cost. The winner will go home with a giant trophy and a cash prize of D50, 000. The runner up will receive a handsome prize of D30, 000. Further to that, six less successful teams in the championship will each receive a consolation prize of D10, 000.00.

In line with this, The GFA Executive Committee commended President Jammeh for his magnanimous gesture and tremendous attention to youth and sports matters.

The release added that, Super Nawettan is the most popular event in our football calendar and eight teams namely, the city boys, Banjul, the giant killers, Bakau, Sere Kunda East and West, Lamin, Brikama and Gunjur Dabanani will participate.
