Zion Warriors FC on 16 February 2014 beat African Lions FC 4-3 on post-match penalty shootout following a goalless draw at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda to win the “Road to Anfield” international football tournament organised by Standard Chartered Bank Gambia Limited.

Winner Zion Warriors will now represent The Gambia at the Anfield international football tournament to be held at the home of Liverpool Football Club in England in May, after winning the Gambia version of the “Road to Anfield” competition.

The team, made up of Gambian, Nigerian and Sierra Leonean nationals, beat African Lions 4-3 in a post-match penalty shootout following a goalless stalemate in the five-a-side football tournament.

Zion Warriors booked their place in the finals of the tournament following a 4-3 defeat of Afri-Radio after another goalless stalemate while African Lions FC beat United FC 1-0 to reach that stage.

The two-day tournament played in a knockout format brought together close to 60 teams.
