Youth Group cleans new university campus

The Kombo East Youth and Children Development Association (KEYCDA) over the weekend joined the army, contractors of the new university campus, to contribute their quota in the ongoing construction works at the university village in Faraba. Members from 33 villages across Kombo East turned out in to clean the new campus area.

Lamin Singhateh, the treasurer of the association, said they are doing it to complement government efforts in nation building, and to meet the MDGs.

"When the construction works started, we felt it necessary to come forward and give a helping hand, and we are the first people to come up with such an initiative. The University of The Gambia belongs to the Gambians and it is incumbent upon every citizen of the country to contribute immensely to its welfare and development," Singateh said.

Also speaking was the alkalo of Faraba, Tumani Jatta Colley, who applauded the army engineering team for their hard work. He also commended the youth group for the initiative.

Colonel Ismaila Sanyang, the head of the army engineers, said he is pleased with the move taken by the youth’' association, adding that it is only a patriotic citizens who will come up with such an initiative.
