Santos on Sunday beat Arrissia JJ FC 5-4 on penalties to advance to the
semi-final in the ongoing World Trade Sports Committee (WTCSC) intermediate
football tournament in a tightly-contested quarterfinal game played at the
Gunjur Nyamina Football Field.
The regulation time failed to produce a winner as both sides played defensive and offensive football, launching several goal-scoring chances at each other’s goal mouth.
This pushed the game into post-match penalty kicks, which ended 5-4 in favour of Young Santos FC, who have deservedly sailed to the semi-final. Arrissia JJ FC are therefore out of the race.
The quarterfinal matches continue this weekend. On Saturday 18 January 2014, Black Stars FC will clash with Central Gunjur FC.
On Sunday 19 January 2014, Berewuleng FC will battle it out with Gunjur Community Football Academy in the other quarterfinal game.
In the previous quarterfinal scores, Ajax FC beat Access Bank 1-0 to progress to the semi-final.
