YJAG Advisory Board Inaugurated

A new board of advisers for the Young Journalists Association of the Gambia (YJAG) was on Saturday March 28th 2009 inaugurated at a colorful ceremony held at the Gambia Press Union office along Garba Jahumpa Road, Bakau.

Speaking on the occasion, the president of YJAG Nfamara Jawneh congratulated the members for their appointment and thanked them for accepting their request to serve in the board. "It shows how committed you are with regard to the empowerment of young people of this country and media development" he said.

According YJAG leader, the role of the board as the name implies, is to advise the association on technical matters regarding the smooth running of the young and promising association.

"Today's inauguration is both timely and relevant as it marks the commencement of your work as a board.

As from now you will no doubt be regarded as family members of YJAG, or parents of the association, if you prefer that. You will also help provide a policy frame work for the association, when necessary" Jawneh said.

He informed the board that their appointment is based on their credibility and demonstrated commitment to public service "We therefore count on your expertise and commitment to put this fledging association on a sound footing" he said.

Demba Kandeh Secretary General of YJAG gave a brief history of the association and  some of the major activities carried out by the group.

For his parts, the Chairperson of the board, Mrs. Amie Bojang Sisoho expressed appreciation for the trust and confidence bestowed on them.

She encouraged the association to strive hard and be committed in their work.

Mr. Sam Sarr Editor-in-Chief of Foroyaa Newspaper also a board member assured the association of his continued support.

Another member of the board Mrs. Jainaba Nyang-Njie advised the young journalists to be first informed before they can inform others. She further advised them to read as much as they can and to follow the ethics of journalism.

Board members Abdoulie John Editor with Daily Observer and Njundu Drammeh National Coorditor Child Protection Alliance all assured the association of their full and relentless support.

"I appreciate deeply the honor and expectation bestowed upon me. I would like to work with young people.I hereby dedicate my unreserved and unflinching commitment to support in whatever way possible" says Lawyer Edu Gomez another board member.

Other members of the board include Mr. Pap Saine Managing Editor of The Point and Mrs. Pamela Cole of WANEP and Ndey Tapha Sosseh, President GPU.
