The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council has announced that Friday 23th November will be the day of Tarsua and Saturday 24th November will be the day of Yawmul Ashura, locally known as Tamxarit for the year 1434H.
A news release issued by the Council Thursday said yesterday the 15th November 2012 was the first day of Muharram, the first month of the Muslim Calendar, while the 9th and 10th day of Muharram will be on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th of November respectively.
The Council further reminds the Muslim Ummah of the importance of fasting on both days.
The council seized the occasion to wish President Yahya Jammeh, his government and the entire Muslim Ummah a blessed celebration of the feast of Yawmul Ashura.
The Council prays that Allah accepts our prayers, continue to guide and bless the nation and many more Yawmul Ashura to celebrate.
