The Regional Principal Nurse Officer for Essau Health Region in the North Bank Region has underscored the importance the Ministry of Health attaches to the fight against TB.
Baba Galleh Jallow was speaking recently in Essau in commemoration of World TB Day on the theme: “The missing three million”, held at the Essau Major Health Centre.
The event was part of annual calendar activities of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and its development partners.
He noted that TB remains a public health concern and therefore calls on patients to come forward for timely treatment.
TB, according to health officials, is a deadly disease affecting people worldwide and has become a cause for concern to the Ministry of Health in providing effective treatment and support at health facility levels.
Max Sambou, commanding officer of Essau Military Barracks, thanked the regional team for building more public awareness on TB, noting that it would empower communities to provide support and care for TB patients.
He said the theme would help the missing three million to get treatment and applauded Global Fund for their support to the health sector.
Chief Fabakary Nana Sonko of Lower Nuimi echoed similar sentiments and assured of district authority support to the campaign, while he called on the communities to report all suspected cases to the nearest health facilities for treatment.
The occasion, attended by a cross-section of the community and opinion leaders, was punctuated with drama performance and cultural display.
