Reports reaching this paper from the Central River Region has revealed that at least one person died on Thursday when a vehicle of the Independent Election Commission, (IEC), was involved in a road accident.
In the morning of 15th March, shortly after the accident, the vehicle with registration number IEC 4 was found parked at a police checkpoint in Fullabantang village in Lower Fulladou West district of the Central River Region south.
An eyewitness said he saw the accident happen. He said the IEC vehicle was coming from Bansang going towards the Kombos.
He saw the vehicle driver lose control , went off road and knocked a motorbike parked on the road side, dragging it towards a woman called Rohey Boye, reportedly a native of Nguduro village in Cassamance.
The witness further told The Point that the vehicle also knocked one CID Touray, who was at the police checkpoint at the time, and broke his leg.
Meanwhile, sources also revealed that the body of Rohey Boye and the wounded CID officer were rushed to Bansang Hospital, and later the CID officer was referred to RVTH in Banjul.
When contacted, police public relations officer ASP Yerro Mballow confirmed the story.
