Woman convicted for jewellery theft

A woman called Isatou Ceesay was recently convicted and sentenced to a fine of D20,000 in default to serve one year, six months in prison.

Isatou Ceesay, who was found liable for stealing from a dwelling house, was ordered to pay a compensation of D760,000 within ninety days.

The case was presided over by Magistrate Jobarteh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

According to the charge sheet read in court, the accused, Isatou Ceesay, on 1 August 2013, at Serrekunda, in the Kanifing Municipality, stole from the dwelling house of one Fatoumatta Bayo the following: eleven gold bangles, one gold necklace and a pair of gold earing all valued at twenty thousand dollars, being the property of the said Fatoumatta Bayo.
