The Kanifing Magistrates’ Court recently convicted and sentenced one Fatou Keita to a fine of D250, 000, in default to serve three years in prison after she admitted to being in possession of prohibited drug.
According to the facts of the case as narrated before the court, the incident happened on 21 March 2012, at Manjai when the NDEA officers were on patrol.
The facts added that the officers spotted the accused with the suspected drug and later conducted a search in her house where two parcels of suspected cannabis were found between two chairs.
The accused was arrested and taken to Manjai Station where she was cautioned and charged in the presence of an independent witness.
On 26 March, the accused was escorted to Banjul for weighing of the suspected drug and a certificate was issued.
Samples were also taken to the Medical and Health Department, where the suspected items were confirmed to be cannabis sativa, a prohibited drug.
The charge sheet stated that she was found with 100grams of suspected cannabis sativa, a prohibited drug, on 21 March 2012, at Manjai, in the Kanifing Municipality.
