Despite the fact that his side lost 3-1 in a game of post-match penalty shootout to Gamtel in the Super Cup final played at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium at the Weekend, Brikama United head coach Essa Sambou has expressed optimism that his team will bounce back to their winning form in the upcoming GFA National division league.
Coach Sambou made this statement shortly after his post-match penalty shootout defeat to Gamtel.
According to the Brikama United coach, Gamtel is a very good team with experienced players, who recently finished runners-up in the just ended WAFU Club championship hosted in Togo in December 2011.
He also said he was “really impressed” by the performance of his boys in the final game.
The game was well contested and both sides played to the best of their ability, he noted, saying the encounter also showed brilliant exhibition of skills and talents but failed to produce a winner in regulation time.
He stated further that they will go back to the drawing board and work on their weaknesses, try to improve on their performance, tactics, and strategy ahead of the 2011-2012 GFA national division one and CAF African Champions league first leg clash against Senegal’s league champions Ouakam FC on 18 February 2012 at the Brikama Box Bar Mini-stadium.
Gamtel head coach Mustapha Manneh, for his part, said he was “really glad” that his side were able to retain the Super Cup title for the second consecutive year.
Coach Manneh said they would not rest on their laurels but would go and continue to train harder and prepare better for the 2011-2012 league season and CAF Confederation Cup.
