The West African International School recently emerged victors of a French competition organized by Saint Francophile Association for several Upper Basic Schools at the Amphetheatre at Alliance Franco Gambienne.
The Upper Basic of West African International School emerged victors clinching the giant trophy with several prizes. The competition was centered on Poetry, Music and Drama.
In his opening remarks, Gerard Cohuoin, Head of French Corporation in The Gambia praised Saint Francophile, the club of Alliance Franco Gambienne for organising a competition in French. Nine schools, Bakau Upper Basic School, Charles Jow, WAIS, Gola Fortunate, New Life, Ecole Senegalaise, Brikama Upper Basic, Apple tree and Ming Ndaw took part in the competition. Gunjur Upper Basic School who came as a guest of the occasion were given certificates. Gerard Cohuoin promised that they will set up pilot French schools in public schools to encourage the learning of French.
Ecole Senegalaise and Charles Jow obtained the 3rd positions, Apple Tree Upper Basic 2nd position with 37 points and WAIS obtained the 1st position with 41 points. It could be recalled that at the Lower Basic level Ecole Diana Mariam was first with 45 points and Marina International was 2nd with 44 points.
Adama Tala, the coordinator of the competition thanked all participating schools and encouraged them to continue learning French.
