The Central Mosque of Kerewan in the Lower Baddibu District, North Bank Region, was officially opened on Friday 15th May 2009. The mosque was sponsored by a citizen of Kerewan, one Alhagie Jawara now residing in Bakau.
Over four thousand people from different parts of the country gathered together in the town to witness the official opening of the mosque.
Speaking on the occasion, Alhagie Ebrima Ceesay, the Imam of Salikenni, shed light on the importance of purity and called for unity among the Muslims. He urged the people of Kerewan to make best use of the new Mosque.
The Alkalo of Kerewan, Alhagie Jikiba Fatty, Imam Alhajie Fanding Ceesay and other Alkalolu from the region, expressed delight on the new development. They thanked the sole sponsor and the people of Kerewan for contributing the labour towards the construction.
The village head used the opportunity to advise the youth of Kerewan to remain united and work towards the development of the town.
The occasion was graced by the Governor of the Region, Alhagie Edward Seckan and other dignitaries.Â
