A volleyball gala, targeting over twenty students in lower and upper basic schools, is billed for Saturday February 6th at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.

The event, which will be part of a series to be staged countrywide by the Gambia Volleyball Association, will kick start with schools from KMC, in both male and female categories, comprising students between  the ages of 10-15 and 16-18 years.

Musa Casa Taal, the President of The Gambia's volleyball outfit said the reason for staging the gala is to give chance to the Cuban coaches, who are currently on technical assistance on volleyball and other sporting disciplines to scout young talents inorder to set up a solid structure for the future of Gambian volleyball.

He said "the association deems it fit to work with sports committees and organise the gala for all the regions throughout the lower and upper basic schools, starting with KMC."

"As part of the event, all regions are expected to mobilise schools within their territories," he added.

Taal pointed out that the volleyball association will be working with lower and upper basic schools to incorporate the U-15 teams in their annual calendar as part of their efforts to decentralise the game.

Regions like Banjul, Western Region, Lower River Region, Upper River Region, Central River Region and North Bank Region, are also expected to stage theirs in a date yet to be confirmed.
